Halifax police make arrest in 16-year-old murder

A grand jury indicted a former Halifax County resident in the 1993 killing of Tony Clifton Briggs, 30, of New Jersey.

Ryall Quincy Majors, 36, was charged with the murder. Investigators found him in Butner, N.C., serving out a sentence on unrelated charges. Majors is being held in Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

Inv. Jimmy Clay re-opened the cold case in 2008 after receiving new information. He and other officials found and re-interviewed witnesses, which led to the indictment.

Police found Briggs sitting in his car on Westside Drive in South Boston on Sept. 16, 1993. He was shot in the head. The Virginia State Police Mobile Forensic Unit processed the scene.
