The story of the day (in Danville)
If you follow me on Twitter (RBensonGDR), then you no doubt read this Tweet just before 1 p.m. Tuesday: “Story of the day: ODU may build wind tunnel in Danville.”
At the time (12:47 p.m.), that was the biggest story. Reporter Catherine Amos learned that Old Dominion University in Norfolk — which already has a research and teaching presence in the Dan River Region — may want to move a wind tunnel from NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton to VIR, with the Tobacco Commission’s help.
But just after 1 p.m., the biggest story in this part of the state became the plane crash near Roanoke Regional Airport.
As that story developed, the wind tunnel story was also coming together. For us, the choice was simple: The wind tunnel project meant more to this community because it had the potential to add an important economic development asset to the Dan River Region.
That’s why the wind tunnel story made A1 center in Wednesday’s paper, and the airplane crash was run inside.
Twitter is a great tool to tell the community not only what we’re working on, but also to learn what people want us to cover. If you’re on Twitter, follow me (RBensonGDR), but don’t be surprised if I’m more interested in following you to find that next big (local) story.
