A lot of work for Danica Patrick

Herb wanted to know what it would take to get the Speed Channel included in the Danville Register & Bee’s television listings grid. I took one look at our grid and decided there was nothing there that I wanted to lose (as you may recall, we recently dropped Spike TV to make room for Fox News).

I asked Herb why he wanted to watch the Speed Channel, and he told me because he wanted to watch Danica Patrick race this year in the Nationwide Series.

Now we were getting somewhere.

I told Herb that I didn’t see the need to change our TV grid, but I would print out the Nationwide schedule and fax it to him. For some reason, the fax wouldn’t go through. Herb decided to meet me halfway by swinging by our office on his next visit to town.

By the time Herb showed up in our lobby, I found an even better schedule for the Nationwide Series, and it appears the races will be carried by three channels we happen to have in our TV grid — ABC, ESPN and ESPN2.

Since I handed Herb a copy of that race schedule, I’ve been thinking that maybe I need to do a better job of saying no to these types of requests. But because this started out as such a simple thing, I’m just not sure if no would have been the right answer. Such is life at my happy little outpost on the Information Superhighway.

As for Danica, I wish her many, many trips to Victory Lane this year. For Herb, a home Internet connection. And Herb, go ahead and kick that fax machine to the curb.
