What I don’t know is why that particular spot has been hosting an empty police car this week. But I’ll bet the police department is warning drivers — at least for now — along that stretch of Central Boulevard to slow down.

On Tuesday, more potentially dangerous winter weather is expected to hit the Dan River Region. We’re not sure what to expect, but we have the ability to get stories out by e-mail, cell phone text messages, our Web site and the newspaper. No matter what hits the ground, we should be able to get the word out

Advertising revenue helps to pay for kind of newsgathering like the story about Clark’s candidacy. Without it, how could we afford to put five reporters on the street every week gathering the local news … that might wind up on page A1, covered by a neon-yellow sticker?

I can’t always promise that President Obama’s picture will be printed on page A1, in part because a daily newspaper can’t be all things to all people. But we are committed to getting the news of the day out front — especially when the president is the one making that news
